So, you may ask: "What is hypnotherapy?"Hypnosis is a completely natural state which is often experienced by almost everyone on a daily basis, without even being aware of it! Do you remember any occasions when, whilst driving, you suddenly realise that you had not consciously been aware of driving for the last few minutes? Or, when you may have been so deeply fascinated by a film that you were completely unaware of sounds and events around you? These simple examples demonstrate the effects of everyday hypnosis. During such periods, we are involved in a selective thinking process which can, should it be used to our advantage, prove to be very beneficial to us. Hypnosis within therapy aims to achieve relaxation of both body and mind. During such periods of deep relaxation, we can bypass the small, conscious mind (known as our "chatterbox"), which can often be logical, analytical and very critical of our actions. We can then work with the large subconscious part of our mind that deals with our automatic reactions. We can "prepare" it to receive and accept positive suggestions for our benefit. This process allows "reprogramming" of our subconscious mind to take place and, once this part of the mind is working for you, it can run rings around that "chatterbox"! Some negative symptom patterns may, however, require uncovering of a deep-rooted problem which has been formerly repressed. This would be followed by suggestion therapy, opening the way to alleviating the symptoms. What this therapy is NOT!This is most definitely NOT stage hypnosis. It is, in fact, very different. - You will be in control at ALL times
- If you wish to terminate the session at ANY time, you may do so by simply opening your eyes
- You can NOT get "stuck" in hypnosis
- You can NOT be made to do anything that you don't want to do!
